To some, small business ownership sounds like a glamorous prospect – working for yourself, setting your own agenda, and making your own rules. But before you can get to Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk level, you must put in considerable time and personal investment. When starting my online guitar business, I went through these same feelings. I was working from morning until night, teaching in-person guitar lessons along with settling logistics to start my online lessons business. First – investigate the competition. I knew I wanted to replicate the success I had seen with my in-person classes in a more scaleable model, but I didn’t know how to start. Because I couldn’t afford to hire someone solely devoted to marketing, my brother helped me out. We sought out free resources, like blogs, books, and forums, to learn how to market in the right way.
