Three easy tips to stay consistent in your blogging

Three easy tips to stay consistent in your blogging

Blogging is vital to your business and your potential customers. Putting your ideas into a blog format can drive traffic to your website and convert that traffic into customers leads – in fact, companies who blog receive 97 percent more links to their website and 67 percent more leads than those who don’t.  It also establishes your authority, and can lead to long-term connections that can make a huge impact on your bottom line.

I started my professional career as a medical doctor, so I had already established authority in the field of health. But what I lacked was a way to spread my ideas – which encompassed more than just my medical training – out into the world. That’s where blogging came in.

When I first started UberHealthBlog, I was surprised at how well-received my posts were. I started with just sending them to my patients, friends, and family, but word quickly spread and I started receiving a dedicated following that included people I’d never met in real life. I loved hearing their feedback about how the posts helped educate and encourage them in their weight loss journeys, and quickly, I realized how much these people depending on my consistent, weekly posts. The more I blogged, the more I realized how important it was that I provided  a steady stream of fresh, new content each week for my audience.

Besides just building this rapport with your readers, it’s important to stay consistent in your blogging for the following reasons:

  • It ups your ranking in search results. When you update your blog content frequently, Google will crawl your page more regularly and give your site more weight in these rankings.
  • Blog posts provide fodder for your social media accounts. People won’t pay attention to what you say on social media unless you have something valuable to share, so making sure you have helpful, frequently-updated posts helps your accounts stay fresh.
  • Consistency builds trust and establishes authority. The most influential bloggers, like Seth Godin, didn’t get that way overnight – they continued to post highly relevant content that built up their expertise over time.

So how do you stay consistent over time? Many bloggers start off strong, but then falter when they get busy or seemingly run out of things to say. Follow these easy tips to ensure you have a strong, regular presence online:

  1. Look to different sources of inspiration for your posts. Are you finding yourself in an idea rut? Look for blog topics in your conversations with current and potential customers, news stories, or by scanning social media.
  2. Solicit feedback from your readers, and look into your blog analytics frequently. When you see how many people are reading your posts, and hear genuine feedback about the value your readers are seeing in your work, this can help propel you forward. One woman told me that my writing has inspired her to lose weight through cooking more healthy meals for her family, which also led to her husband losing weight and finding the body of his youth. These types of inspiring stories help keep me focused and motivated.
  3. Set milestones. I like to structure my work in 12-week spurts so that in a way, I’m always close to reaching my goal. Instead of just writing a different blog post every week, consider writing in set “campaigns” with a theme for each. Having short, reachable goals will help keep you on a consistent path in your writing.

Follow this advice, and you’ll be well on your way to establishing an authoritative presence in your online blog through consistent posting.
